A Bronx Tale (1993)
I had been wanting to watch A Bronx Tale for the longest time, and now that I finally have, I understand why so many people love it. Calogero was honestly such a kind hearted kid. I know he made a lot of mistakes throughout the movie, but when I look at his environment, it makes sense. He was trying to figure out who he wanted to be while being pulled in completely different directions by the people around him. One of my favorite parts of the movie was Sonny. A lot of people see him as just a gangster, but to me he felt like a father figure to Calogero. He taught him lessons, looked out for him, and genuinely cared about what kind of man he would become. I had a feeling Sonny was going to die before it happened, but it still made me cry when it finally did. The relationship between Calogero and Jane gave me so many feelings. Their story felt innocent, genuine, and hopeful in a world where everyone else was trying to divide them. Thinking about certain scenes between them still makes me emotional. This movie also reminded me how much personality and energy can make a character attractive. Calogero had that classic Italian look and confidence that somehow made me understand a few of my own preferences a little better. Some of y’all know exactly what I’m talking about.ππ Overall, this movie wasn’t just about crime or growing up. It was about choices, influence, love, loyalty, and figuring out who you are when everyone around you is trying to tell you who to be. 10/10. I’d watch it again.
